Ford Escape first came into the market in the year 2000. Since then many changes and facelifts have been done to this SUV. Initially when it was launched, it paved its way into the hearts of all its users. At that time it was among the very first crossover cars. The 16 inch alloy wheels of Escape give it a bold look. The outside rear view mirror has an integrated blind spot viewing surface. Keyless entry, cruise control, full power accessories and MyKey parental controls are among its other interesting features.
Effective Air Conditioner
Escape comes with a good performing air conditioner and a four speaker music system. There is an ipod and Bluetooth interface given in the cabin with audio controls mounted on the steering wheel. The XLT variant features automatic headlights and fog lamps and an auto dimming rear view mirror. The driver seat is a six way power enabled with leather upholstery making the interiors look sophisticated. Heated front seats and ambient lighting is also among its various attractive features. Rear parking sensors, rearview camera, sunroof, parallel parking assist, navigation system and seven speaker entertainment system have been given in the higher variants of Escape.
Cargo and Space
The cargo space has 29 cubic feet capacity behind the second row and 66 cubic feet capacity when the second row has been folded. The driver’s seat is taller than the other cars of the same genre making driving experience a little uncomforting for some.
Engine & Fuel Efficiency
Ford Escape is powered by a 2.5 litre four cylinder engine giving 171 horsepower. Another option for the engine is the 3.0 litre V6 engine producing 240 horsepower. For the former engine there is a choice of six speed automatic or five speed manual transmission.The latter engine comes with an automatic transmission only that can tow up to 3500 pounds.
The four cylinder six speed automatic transmission engine of Escape gives a mileage of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highways.
Safety Arrangements
For the safety features, Escape is equipped with full length curtain type airbags, antilock brakes, stability control, traction control and front seat airbags. This car has passed the front and side crash test with five stars.The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety scores were also satisfactory as they gave a “good” to the side and frontal offset tests. For roof strength it got a “marginal” score. The braking performance of Escape although is poor.

Ford Escape can be given an overall rating of three out of five stars. It is a fairly good performing vehicle making a satisfactory impression on its users.
