BMW, a German luxury car maker, plans to launch various models that will lead the way in the field of electric vehicles in India. The company announced its plans in November of 2021. BMW announced plans to introduce three electric vehicles in India and worldwide. The company will launch 25 electric cars in 2023. Most of them could be introduced in India if current incentives are maintained, and sufficient charging infrastructure is established nationwide.

Vikram Pawah, President of BMW, stated to the media, “The customer acceptance of electric vehicles has been better than expected and the company expects 10 per cent of its demand to come from such models by the end of the next calendar year. Electro mobility is a new space that is developing. BMW Group wants to take the lead in the luxury space.”

The company has launched its flagship technology SUV, the all-electric iX, and the all-electric MINI SE luxurious hatchback and claims to have completed the entire allocation of batches of both vehicles. This week, it announced the third offering of its mid-sized electric Sedan i4 for sale at an initial pricing of INR 69.90 per lakh.

“When we launched the iX and MINI SE, what we are seeing is an approximate demand of about 5 per cent which is really healthy. With the i4 launch, I expect by next year, the electric demand would be over 10 per cent of our volumes,” Pawah said. Pawah in a press release during the launch celebration.

The company is also planning to invest in establishing charging infrastructure. The company has already installed 50 DC fast chargers in 34 cities across the country, as claimed by the company in an announcement.

As per studies, BMW came in as the fifth electric vehicle maker that plugs into the grid in the first quarter of 2021, with a market share of just under 6 percent.
