Equinox with its improved dynamics, design and features has resurfaced as the much admired crossover SUV as compared to the times it was first launched. Earlier the likes of Honda and Toyota stole the show away leaving only a little scope for popularity for Chevrolet Equinox. The ride quality has definitely showed great improvement from the earlier times, which particularly has been the reason for Equinox’s success in a market flooded with enough crossovers.

 

Design and trim levels

Chevrolet Equinox, now a more compact crossover has four trim levels available to choose from. They are LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ. The LS trim sports 17 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power accessories, cruise control, sliding as well as reclining backseats, front seat power enabled height adjustment, tilt-telescoping steering wheel, six speakers OnStar music system with satellite radio and audio jack .The next trim level, 1LT gets you roof rails, tinted rear windows, Bluetooth along with iPod/USB interface, leather covered steering wheel, 18 inch wheels and an optional V6 engine along with all the other features LS has. The 2LT trim level gets you some more added features including heated front seats, remote ignition, fog lamps, eight speaker Pioneer music system, rear view camera, auto dimming mirror, auto climate control, eight way power driver’s seat along with the other features in the previous trim level. The LTZ trim level includes automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors, power tailgate, leather upholstery and driver memory functions too along with all the other features. 

Engine and its performance

Chevrolet Equinox has two engine options. The first one is the 2.4 litre four cylinder engine that gives 182 horsepower and 172 pound feet torque. Except for the LS trim with all the other trim levels is available another engine option which is the 3.0 litre V6 engine. It produces 264 horsepower and 222 lb-ft torque. Both the engines have six speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive, however all wheel drive is also an option to choose from. The 2.4 litre engine with front wheel drive gives a fuel efficiency of 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on highways according to EPA estimations. When combined with the all wheel drive the fuel efficiency drops to 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on highways. The V6 front wheel drive the fuel efficiency comes to 17 mpg in city and 25 on highways. With all wheels drive, this engine doesn’t drop its performance considerably making the city fuel efficiency to 17 mpg and for highways 24 mpg.

Safety

Equinox sports antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front seat airbags and side curtain airbags. This crossover scores “good” ratings by IIHS in the side impact and front offset crash testing.

Conclusion

The Chevrolet Equinox is certainly a “thumbs up” when it comes to its design, driving experience and overall performance making it a much desirable crossover.
