Ford launched Ikon way back in 1999, but with new modifications and an improved design, the C segment sedan is back in the market. Receiving quite a few applauds; Ford is on an all time high with the recent Figo and the brand new Ikon.
Design and Styling of Ford Ikon
Many new and advanced features have been added to the new Ford Ikon car. More legroom at the rear side (1036 mm) has been provided for the comfort of the travellers in the car. The head room too has been enhanced making it 982 mm. The rear seats that were earlier found to be not very comfortable have been padded more to avoid any inconvenience for the passengers of the car. The handling of the Ford Ikon car is also improvised, so that driving an Ikon becomes truly a smooth and comfortable experience. The look of the rear part of the exterior of the car has been enhanced. The grille at the front of the car has been given a dominating and aggressive look. The headlights too add to the overall ‘mean machine’ look of the Ford Ikon. Power steering and tachometer is present in the car. Parking sensors and fog lamps can be counted in other additional features of the car. The body coloured bumper is strong and tail lights quite clear. Remote central locking, fuel filler and chrome finished remote boot lid is provided in Ikon by Ford. Rear defogger and armrest too have been added in the car. An air conditioner and a music system come preinstalled in the car. The alloy wheel size is 175/70 R13. It’s easily possible to seat five passengers in this sedan. The dimensions of the car are- 4145 mm length, 1632 mm width and 1439 mm height.
Engine and Performance of Ford Ikon
1.6 ROCAM engine has been fitted in Ikon to give better mileage on roads. The displacement of this four cylinder petrol engine is 1299 cc which is not very satisfactory as most sedans have a better displacement than Ikon. It gives maximum power of 70 Bhp at 5500 rpm and maximum torque of 105 Nm at 2500 rpm. The suspension of the engine in Ford Ikon is Independent Mc Pherson struts, coil spring. The total kerb weight comes to 995 kilograms. The front brakes are disk type and the rear ones drum. Two trip meters have also been provided in this sedan. The top speed of the car shoots up to 156 kilometres per hour, not very satisfactory as compared to other powerful sedans in the market. The fuel efficiency in Ikon comes to up to 12 kilometres per litre. One of the major drawbacks of this Ford car is its high maintenance costs. With many add on features Ikon hasn’t still been able to turn many advocators to its side.
