AJ Maddox crossed VSP off his bucket list and takes home the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint win!
7-23-2016) The Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car Series made their return this past Saturday night to Volusais Speedway Park along with special events for the Allen Plumbing Hobby Stocks and the Gary Yeomans Performance Parts Mini Stocks.. The weather was beautiful in the Sunshine State as the temperatures were hot and the racing action was even more hot.
After a rain shower set the evening back one hour, Track officials ran through the night seamlessly gaining back that hour quickly as the first feature event of the night took the track just before 9:00pm with the Mercedes Benz Limited Late Models taking center stage. When the green flag dropped it was Sonny Thompson taking the early lead, but quickly had his hands full with Adam Bennett who has been coming on strong in his Mastersbilt #40 in recent weeks. Bennett won his heat race in dominating performance and by lap ten had worked his way around Thompson for the lead and set sail to take home his first win of 2016. Thompson would hold on to finish second followed by Paul Shead (who took back the points lead from Nevin Gainey), Mark Stuebe, and Steve Shead rounded out the top five.

VSP Announces Summer changes as well as a schedule update!
7-13-2016) Volusia Speedway Park promoter Wendi Underwood has made some schedule changes to our 2016 racing season. Some of the changes are to offer our regular VSP drivers a change to compete away from home in bigger shows as well as changes to help with the extreme heat Florida has been experiencing this Summer.
Below are the biggest changes to the schedule:
To our Fans and Drivers / 8:00pm Start times in August thru September!: Summer is in full swing and the temperature is extremely hot. We have had some issues the past few weeks with people getting the first stages of heat exhaustion due to the high temperatures. VSP officials have decided that in the month of August our start times for racing will now be 8:00pm. This will allow our drivers and fans a little extra time to get to the track as well as soak up the A/C just a little bit longer. The 8:00pm start time will also continue through September as well, but will revert back to 7:30pm in October.
Advanced Medical Labs Late Models: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we have decided to add a special $2500 to win event on this day with a $75 entry Fee. The catch to the event will be your roofs are coming off. That is right, we are going to run our first ever Topless race to support Breast Cancer so make sure you mark your calendars for this date. We have also moved your regular season races around some, so make sure to check the schedule page!
Mercedes Benz of Daytona Limited Late Models: September 3rd has been adjusted and will now be sanctioned by the Florida Late Model Series. The series has contacted to track and we have decided to make this event happen to support the series. More information on the event will be available in the next few weeks. We have also moved your regular season races around some, so make sure to check the schedule page!
Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks: We have made numerous changes to this classes schedule. The most notable is we will now be closed on July 30th in support of North Florida Speedway's Summer Slam. We want all of our drivers to be able to travel to this event including our other classes, so we have deiced to shut down operations to allow this to happen.
VSP officials have moved the Thunderstocks off the schedule on September 24th in support of the Benny Corbin Memorial Race being held at North Florida Speedway. We have removed this event so our local drivers can attend this event.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October and on October 8th we have added a special twin feature 25's event. We will be running two separate features paying $2500 to win for each. This event is still in the development stages, but we will have more information on it in the next few weeks.
Gary Yeomans Performance Parts Gladiators & Mini Stocks: VSP officials have added some events and moved these classes around some on the schedule. Please make sure to check the schedule page for the changes.
The Gladiators are now running for $400 to win this weekend, Saturday July 16th, thanks to Integrity Painting and Allen Plumbing. We are also going to have special incentives for this race so each driver must attend the drivers meeting to understand the stipulations!
David Showers Sr. breaks the streak, finds victory lane in the Iron Man Series!
7-11-2016) It was another great night of racing at Volusia Speedway Park on Saturday as four classes took to the Worlds Fastest Half Mile with the Youngs Enterprises Iron Man Series Race #2 headlining the evening for the V8 Thunderstocks.
The first feature event of the night saw the Mercedes Benz of Daytona Beach Limited Late Models take center stage as Shan Smith made his second appearance of 2016 at VSP and would take home the win over Nevin Gainey who has dominated the 2016 season in his Snow Brothers 17G. Nevin has had a bit of bad luck as of late, but with his runner up finish reclaimed the points lead from veteran Paul Shead as only four points separate the two drivers. Tom Smith recorded his best feature finish of the year in third, Rookie Noah Cornman came home fourth and Lewis Ledlow rounded out the top five.
Next up would be the Daytona Sportswear Modifieds as Larry Burkins would continue flashes of the 2014 championship season dominating the feature event once again. Garret Stewart came home in second, Hunter Gustafson third, Dillon Buhr fourth, and Patrick Vereika come home in fifth, which also was his first start of 2016. The points battle still sees Stewart leading Burkins because Burkins missed a race earlier on in the year.

Fitzgerald takes home the cash as David Showers Jr. still keeps winner at VSP!
(7-3- 2016) Jason Fitzgerald pick the right time to win at Volusia Speedway Park as he is now $3,000 richer when race leader Mark Whittner had mechanical woes half way through the Advanced Medical Labs Late Model Feature event.
David Showers Jr., continued to have a record setting year as he would come from his 8th place starting spot to win yet again at Volusia Speedway Park in the Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstock division. Showers Jr. has only lost two times in 2016, once to Scotty Kay Jr. and once to Bubba Durbin.
Donnie Ashford continued his Volusia Speedway Park dominance winning the $2,500 Allen Plumbing Hobby Stock main event for another big money win in his 2016 campaigned.

Mark Whitener wins in guest appearence as David Showers Jr. stays red hot!
(6-27- 2016) Mother Nature tried her hardest to take another night of racing on Saturday night, but Rob Underwood and the track prep crew were ready this time. Around 5:30pm the track was hit with a massive rain shower that would threaten the nights racing action, but the track was packed in very hard and would only take about two hours to be completely run in. After the drivers meeting everyone agreed they came to race and they would stick the night out.
It ended up being a great night of racing action as Mark Whitener would top the Advanced Medical Labs Late Model division in a thriller with Jason Fitzgerald. The two would exchange the lead three times before Whitener got around Fitzgerald for the final time with a power move off turns four with ten laps to go. Nevin Gainey would finish third, David Clegg fourth and Howard Stalls rounded out the top five.

VSP makes schedule changes and adds Open Practice Friday Night June 24th!
(6-22-2016) With this past weekends rain-out, VSP officials have been hard at work trying to reschedule not only the Mini Stock $500 to win special, but also the second leg of the Young's Enterprises Iron Man Series.
Track promoter Wendi Underwood is proud to announce everything has been rescheduled! The Gary Yeoman's Parts Department Mini Stock $500 to win special has been added to the July 23rd show at VSP. Race #3 will be run on August 13th, Race #4 on September 10th, Race #5 on November 12th, and the finale on December 3rd (also the last race of the year at VSP).
Track officials have also added an Open Practice for this coming Friday, June 24th, for all classes. With this weekend being the third prelude race to the Benny Corbin Memorial being run at North Florida Speedway on September 24th, track officials only thought it would be fair to have an open night of practice.
The practice will be held from 6:30pm to 9:30pm with pit admission being set at $15 per person. Admission into the grandstands will be free. Please note this will also be weather permitting, but we feel confident mother nature will continue to shine down on VSP.

Mark Whitner wins the Powell Memorial in a thriller! Showers Jr. stays red hot in the thunderstocks!
(6-11- 2016) Saturday night went in the record books as we concluded the 21st Annual Powell Memorial weekend as Volusia Speedway Park. It was an incredible night of racing and one that will not soon be forgotten. In the end a new champion was crowned and winning streaks continued at "The World's Fastest Half Mile".
First up on the evening was the Mercedes Benz Limited Late Model division as Nevin Gainey looked to find his way back to the top of the leader board after a tough break last week. When the green flag fell it was newcomer to VSP David Whitener, Mark Whiteners brother, taking the early lead into the first turn. Gainey would quickly move into second and begin to mount the charge and challenge the race leader. Whitener, driving a Sno-Brothers Race car, was strong out of the gate never letting Gainey get but six or seven car length to his bumper. When the race finally ended it was Whitener claiming the win with Gainey taking home the runner up spot. With his second place finish, however, he took of the points lead from the absent Paul Shead.

David Showers Jr.comes from the 15th starting spot to take home the bounty money!
(June 4th 2016) David Showers Jr. has been enarly unstoppable in 2016 at Volusia Speedway Park. In fact he has only been beaten two times all year, once by Bubba Durbin, the other by Scotty Kay Jr. The stats dont tell lies on how good the #118 has been. This led VSP promoter Wendi Underwood pondering what the track could do to up the antie on beating Showers Jr.
Saturday night was the first challenge made to knock Showers off the top spot and spice up the racing night. No matter his heat race finish, he would have to start 15th on the starting grid for a chance to win an extra $200 and a brand new EZ-up for his race team. If someone could beat him they would get the EZ-up for their race team. In the end, it was Showers Jr. once again putting on a show coming from the back to the front and winning his 8th feature event of 2016 after an epic battle with Bubba Durbin once again!

VSP puts a bounty on David Showers Jr. for June 4th Racing Action!
(June 1st 2016) David Showers Jr. has been nearly unstoppable at Volusia Speedway Park in 2016. Only two drivers have been able to beat him since the season began, Scotty Kay Jr. and Bubba Durbin. Showers is currently riding a three race winning streak which includes the 2nd annual Iron Man 100 which paid $10,000 to the winner and has won an unprecedented six out of his last seven races.
These mind blowing stats have left the completion scratching their heads, trying to catch the Showers Chassis, Microburst, River Race RC Tracks, H&R Horsepower #118. VSP track promoter Wendi Underwood has deiced to take matters into her own hands and up the stakes for the competition and Showers to win. This coming weekend Showers will start 15th on the starting grid no matter the outcome of the heat races and will collect an additional $100 if he can win the race. On the flip side of that, if someone can finally dethrone Showers they will receive a special gift from one of our sponsors.
We hope that everyone makes it out this coming weekend as the bounty has been placed and the challenge has been accepted! Pit and Drive thru gates open at 4:00pm, Main gate at 5:00pm and racing starts at 7:30pm! We hope to see you all at the races!
David Showers Jr. takes home the 2nd Annual Iron Man 100 win continuing his domination of Volusia Speedway!
(May 22nd 2016) The final night of the Iron Man 100 Weekend was ran on Sunday night and it turned out to be yet another memorable night of racing with late race passes and excitement all throughout the racing field. When the dust settled and the final results came in, it was another dominating night across the board.
First up would be the Iron Man 100 paying $10,000 to the winner as Donnie Ashford would draw the pole position with Tommy Hill along side of him. When the green flag dropped Hill would quickly jump out into the lead as David Browning would get around Ashford and mount the challenge for the lead as well. Browning and Hill would duke it out for much of the first half of the race as David Showers Jr. and Sr. would begin to march to the front. Just past the races halfway point, Hill would start to fall back just inside the top five when his engine would appear to expire. This would move Bubba Drubin into the fourth spot with Mike Tovet in fifth. The race would see numerous cautions, mainly for tires with the exception of Shane Williams backing his Bobby McCormick #104D into the turn 1 wall. Each restart, however, Browning would get out in front by several car lengths leave Showers Jr. and Sr. struggling to keep pace. As the race wore into the final laps, Showers Jr. would get one more shot at the leader as a caution would come out setting up a green white checker finish. Showers Jr. would powers his #118 machine hard into turns three and four coming to the final lap, but it was to no avail as Browning would go on to win, or so we thought.

(April, 30th 2016) Another great night of racing action took place at the "World's Fastest Half Mile" in Barberville, FL this past Saturday Night. The weather could not have been any better and track conditions were perfect for yet another week in the Sunshine State!
The night would start off with the Mercedes Benz of Daytona Beach Florida Limited Late Models. Paul Shead and Trevor Taylor would lead the field to the green flag as Trevor Taylor would take the early race lead by using the high side and the cushion to jump out to a reasonable lead in the races early stages. The real battle would take place for second through fifth as new coming Shan Smith, Sonny Thompson, and Ed Hill would do battle with Paul Shead for the second spot. The battle would continue on until Sonny Thompson would grab the spot away and begin the charge to chase race leader Taylor. Several caution flags would fly in the later stages of the race which would prove to be beneficiary for Shan Smith. He would use two cautions to get by Shead and Thompson on restarts and set his sites on Taylor. With only one lap remaining a final caution would fly and set the stage for a one lap dash for cash on a restart. When the green and white flew, Smith would dive to the low side and put a massive slide job on leader Trevor Taylor. Jason Fitzgerald takes home the $2500 Late Model Win and David Showers Jr. Makes it Three in a row!
(April, 25th 2016) Volusia Speedway Park had another great night of racing action at the World's Fastest Half Mile. For those fans that were in attendance, the night did not disappoint in each racing division side by side action ruled the night in three of the four classes.
VSP's headline event, the Advanced Medical Laboratories Late Model division, would see pole sitter Jason Fitzgerald slip back to the second spot as Kyle Bronson would get the early lead. Bronson would lead until just before the mid way point of the 40 lap main event as Jason Fitzgerald would use lap traffic to his advantage and slip by the #40B on the front stretch heading into turn one. As the race would wind down, Fitzgerald would extend his lead until ten laps to go when Mark Whitener made a bold move around Bronson in turn four with a massive slide job and attempt to reel in Fitzgeralds #7. Whitener would only get within six or seven car lengths of Fitzgerald and would start to loose ground in the closing laps as Bronson would ultimately take second back. No one had anything for Fitzgerald as he went on to win his second race of the year at VSP. Bronson was second, Whitener third, Bo Allen and Keith Nosbisch rounded out the top five respectfully. Whitener was fast time overall with a 16.846 qualifying lap and heat race wins went to Bronson, Horton, and Fitzgerald.

April, 2nd 2016) Mother nature yet again cleared the weather out of the area and racing continued for the third straight week at the World's Fastest Half Mile. The track conditions were perfect and the first race of the Iron Man Series sponsored by Young's Enterprises went on with great racing action as well as the other three divisions on hand.
The headline division of the evening was the Young's Enterprises Iron Man Series with race number one taking place. The night started off with a new format as each car would qualify to determine the starting line up for heat race action. Scotty Kay Jr. would find himself earning quick time honors and the right and take home the bonus for the honor.
When the feature event rolled out it was Alan Peacock starting on the pole along side last weeks winner David Showers Jr. The first starting eight positions would be decided by pill draw from the top two finishers in each heat. When the green flag dropped Showers Jr. would use the high line to his advantage getting the early jump on Peacock, last years Iron Man Series champion. Showers would set the pace for the initial laps, but Scotty Kay Jr. would make his way to the front in grand fashion making his way into the top three before the races half way point. David Shower Sr. would be the first to apply pressure to his son, but Kay would eventually get the top spot from the both of them and go onto win the $1200 top prize. The night saw close finishes, a few tempers, and even a small power outage in turn one, but overall another great night of racing action.
Starting off the night were the Daytona Sportswear Modifieds as Garret Stewart picked up where he left off in 2015 taking his Elite Chassis #67 to victory lane once again after a forgettable speedweeks in February.
The Allen Plumbing Hobby Stocks saw Trevor Gamble make it two wins in two nights on a new motor as he was the class of the field leading nearly flag to flag. 2015 Donnie Ashford who missed the first part of last year did not have a good night as he would spin in his heat race, once in the feature and get caught racing incident ripping the nose off the #66 machine.
The newly Sponsored Advanced Medical Laboratories Late Model division victory went to a dominate Mark Whitener as he would lead flag to flag from the pole ridding the rim in turns three and four. Ivedent Lloyd Jr., made his usual appearance in the David Clegg #07 and would come home second followed by the XR1 Rocket Chassis #58 of Austin Kirkpatrick.
Mini Stock action went to Todd Haught as he was in a different zip code from the drop of the green lapping nearly the entire field in his Action Automotive #1AR.
Rounding out the night was the Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks and just like the past two years it was another close finish on the final lap. Race long leader David Showers Jr. would find issues on the handling coming to the white flag on his #118 allowing former Late Model champion Stanton Mills to get under him in turn one. After that the rest is history as Mills would use a power move coming to the checkered flag and take home his first win in nearly two years removed from racing competition.
VSP returns next week as the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car Series heads into town along with the Advanced Medical Laboratories Limited Late Models, Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks and Gladiator Divisions. Pit and Drive thru gates open at 4:00pm with the main gate opening at 5:00pm. Racing will start at 7:30pm! We hope to see you all there!
