David Showers Jr. takes home the 2nd Annual Iron Man 100 win continuing his domination of Volusia Speedway!
(May 22nd 2016) The final night of the Iron Man 100 Weekend was ran on Sunday night and it turned out to be yet another memorable night of racing with late race passes and excitement all throughout the racing field. When the dust settled and the final results came in, it was another dominating night across the board.
First up would be the Iron Man 100 paying $10,000 to the winner as Donnie Ashford would draw the pole position with Tommy Hill along side of him. When the green flag dropped Hill would quickly jump out into the lead as David Browning would get around Ashford and mount the challenge for the lead as well. Browning and Hill would duke it out for much of the first half of the race as David Showers Jr. and Sr. would begin to march to the front. Just past the races halfway point, Hill would start to fall back just inside the top five when his engine would appear to expire. This would move Bubba Drubin into the fourth spot with Mike Tovet in fifth. The race would see numerous cautions, mainly for tires with the exception of Shane Williams backing his Bobby McCormick #104D into the turn 1 wall. Each restart, however, Browning would get out in front by several car lengths leave Showers Jr. and Sr. struggling to keep pace. As the race wore into the final laps, Showers Jr. would get one more shot at the leader as a caution would come out setting up a green white checker finish. Showers Jr. would powers his #118 machine hard into turns three and four coming to the final lap, but it was to no avail as Browning would go on to win, or so we thought.

(April, 30th 2016) Another great night of racing action took place at the "World's Fastest Half Mile" in Barberville, FL this past Saturday Night. The weather could not have been any better and track conditions were perfect for yet another week in the Sunshine State!
The night would start off with the Mercedes Benz of Daytona Beach Florida Limited Late Models. Paul Shead and Trevor Taylor would lead the field to the green flag as Trevor Taylor would take the early race lead by using the high side and the cushion to jump out to a reasonable lead in the races early stages. The real battle would take place for second through fifth as new coming Shan Smith, Sonny Thompson, and Ed Hill would do battle with Paul Shead for the second spot. The battle would continue on until Sonny Thompson would grab the spot away and begin the charge to chase race leader Taylor. Several caution flags would fly in the later stages of the race which would prove to be beneficiary for Shan Smith. He would use two cautions to get by Shead and Thompson on restarts and set his sites on Taylor. With only one lap remaining a final caution would fly and set the stage for a one lap dash for cash on a restart. When the green and white flew, Smith would dive to the low side and put a massive slide job on leader Trevor Taylor. Taylor would not let off the gas and ended up hitting the 17SS machine of Smith hard causing Taylor to smith out coming out of turn two with extensive damage. The field would miss Taylor for the most part, even though a two other cars spun out as the race would end with the yellow and checkered flying at the same time and Smith being declared the race winner. Thompson would come home second followed by Shead, Noah Cornman (making his first career start), and Taylor

Jason Fitzgerald takes home the $2500 Late Model Win and David Showers Jr. Makes it Three in a row!
(April, 25th 2016) Volusia Speedway Park had another great night of racing action at the World's Fastest Half Mile. For those fans that were in attendance, the night did not disappoint in each racing division side by side action ruled the night in three of the four classes.
VSP's headline event, the Advanced Medical Laboratories Late Model division, would see pole sitter Jason Fitzgerald slip back to the second spot as Kyle Bronson would get the early lead. Bronson would lead until just before the mid way point of the 40 lap main event as Jason Fitzgerald would use lap traffic to his advantage and slip by the #40B on the front stretch heading into turn one. As the race would wind down, Fitzgerald would extend his lead until ten laps to go when Mark Whitener made a bold move around Bronson in turn four with a massive slide job and attempt to reel in Fitzgeralds #7. Whitener would only get within six or seven car lengths of Fitzgerald and would start to loose ground in the closing laps as Bronson would ultimately take second back. No one had anything for Fitzgerald as he went on to win his second race of the year at VSP. Bronson was second, Whitener third, Bo Allen and Keith Nosbisch rounded out the top five respectfully. Whitener was fast time overall with a 16.846 qualifying lap and heat race wins went to Bronson, Horton, and Fitzgerald.

Scotty Kay Jr. takes the top spot in the Iron Man Series, Fitzgerald returns, Burkins & King take wins!
April, 2nd 2016) Mother nature yet again cleared the weather out of the area and racing continued for the third straight week at the World's Fastest Half Mile. The track conditions were perfect and the first race of the Iron Man Series sponsored by Young's Enterprises went on with great racing action as well as the other three divisions on hand.
The headline division of the evening was the Young's Enterprises Iron Man Series with race number one taking place. The night started off with a new format as each car would qualify to determine the starting line up for heat race action. Scotty Kay Jr. would find himself earning quick time honors and the right and take home the bonus for the honor.
When the feature event rolled out it was Alan Peacock starting on the pole along side last weeks winner David Showers Jr. The first starting eight positions would be decided by pill draw from the top two finishers in each heat. When the green flag dropped Showers Jr. would use the high line to his advantage getting the early jump on Peacock, last years Iron Man Series champion. Showers would set the pace for the initial laps, but Scotty Kay Jr. would make his way to the front in grand fashion making his way into the top three before the races half way point. David Shower Sr. would be the first to apply pressure to his son, but Kay would eventually get the top spot from the both of them and go onto win the $1200 top prize. Shower Sr. would get Jr. at the line with Donnie Ashford making a guest appearance in the Montessi Sr. #93 and Peacock rounding out the top five.

David Showers Jr. doubles up! Agin and Hindman take home first victories of 2016
March, 28th 2016) Mother nature did everything in her power to deny Volusia Speedway Park a full night of racing action, but in the end the skies opened up and allowed for another great night of great racing action with two last lap passes for wins!
First up were the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car series making their first trip to the "World's Fastest Half Mile". Eight cars signed into the pit area and it was Mark Ruel Jr. taking home the one and only heat race in his #83 sprint car. When the feature took off, so did Tony Agin and his #38. Agin would jump out to nearly a half track lead over Mark Ruel and local Brett O'Donell. As the laps winded down in the 25 lap feature event, Ruel would do everything in his power running the high side to catch Agin, but it just wasn't enough as Agin went on to score his first win of the year.

Opening night draw good crowd and great racing!
(March,19th 2016) The 2016 season is finally underway at Volusia Speedway Park as mother nature decided to play nice and racing resumed at the world's fastest half mile.
The night saw close finishes, a few tempers, and even a small power outage in turn one, but overall another great night of racing action.
Starting off the night were the Daytona Sportswear Modifieds as Garret Stewart picked up where he left off in 2015 taking his Elite Chassis #67 to victory lane once again after a forgettable speedweeks in February.
The Allen Plumbing Hobby Stocks saw Trevor Gamble make it two wins in two nights on a new motor as he was the class of the field leading nearly flag to flag. 2015 Donnie Ashford who missed the first part of last year did not have a good night as he would spin in his heat race, once in the feature and get caught racing incident ripping the nose off the #66 machine.
The newly Sponsored Advanced Medical Laboratories Late Model division victory went to a dominate Mark Whitener as he would lead flag to flag from the pole ridding the rim in turns three and four. Ivedent Lloyd Jr., made his usual appearance in the David Clegg #07 and would come home second followed by the XR1 Rocket Chassis #58 of Austin Kirkpatrick.
Mini Stock action went to Todd Haught as he was in a different zip code from the drop of the green lapping nearly the entire field in his Action Automotive #1AR.
Rounding out the night was the Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks and just like the past two years it was another close finish on the final lap. Race long leader David Showers Jr. would find issues on the handling coming to the white flag on his #118 allowing former Late Model champion Stanton Mills to get under him in turn one. After that the rest is history as Mills would use a power move coming to the checkered flag and take home his first win in nearly two years removed from racing competition.
VSP returns next week as the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car Series heads into town along with the Advanced Medical Laboratories Limited Late Models, Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks and Gladiator Divisions.
